OpenOffice & Gimp Tutorial: Making a Signature With a Transparent Background
August 20, 2011 by sigmi
This presentation shows how to create a signature with a transparent background to be used in a document. The advantage of the transparent signature is that you can place the signature between lines of text and the text still shows through. The Signature is on top of the text just like a real signature. Programs Used: The GIMP and OpenOffice Writer.
You can also just pay 25 bucks to have your own personal signature turned into a transparent digital signature if you don’t have photoshop or just don’t want to do it your self. Having the digital signature is a HUGE time saver.

FYI, I couldn’t get the Fuzzy Select tool to work properly using the Delete key. It worked fine when I went to Edit, Clear. Hope that helps save someone else some frustration. But a GREAT and very helpful video. THANKS!!!!!
Thanks for an excellent video. Much appreciated.
Excellent tutorial, Thank you!
Using Gimp on a Mac so I am not sure if there is a slight difference. When using the paintbrush in overlay, all I get is a black line the width of the circle as if I were painting. It doesn’t darken my signature lines like in the tutorial. Any help from anybody would be great!
use the fuzzy select tool its the little wand in the top row, hope that helps, not really clear on what your problem is
